Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring cannabinoid extracted from industrial hemp, which contains only trace amounts of THC, the molecule responsible for the psychoactive effects associated with the use of cannabis.
At Santyka, our CBD oils, capsules, and other CBD supplements also contain other healthy phytocannabinoids. Our products are made from all natural CBD and are non-GMO, gluten free, kosher, and contain virtually no THC. We never use synthetic CBD.
Most people are familiar with the chemical compound tetrahydrocannabinol—THC—in marijuana. It’s the compound responsible for the euphoric high people associate with marijuana. But cannabidiol—CBD—is one of the most predominant chemical compounds in cannabis. While it comes from the same plant, it lacks the psychoactive properties that result in the “high” most people get from cannabis use. Without the “stoned” feeling, you’re left with all the potential medical benefits cannabis offers. Pretty amazing, right?
If you’ve been keeping up with the news, you’ve probably seen all of the stories about different states legalizing marijuana. It’s not simply cannabis’ recreational use that has the country riled up, but its medicinal uses as well. Patients who lack access to medical marijuana may feel left out in the cold, but there’s a readily available alternative that many consumers haven’t quite caught onto yet: CBD oil.
CBD is only one of over 80 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant. You can think of it as an extract of cannabis that comes in two forms: CBD-rich and CBD-dominant. CBD-rich pertains to a product that has equal amounts of CBD and THC, or slightly more CBD than THC. CBD-dominant, on the other hand, refers to products that are CBD-rich but have minimal THC content.
While THC is the compound responsible for the mind-altering affects people associate with marijuana use, CBD isn’t psychoactive. Which means it won’t alter your state of mind while using it. Researchers have been studying CBD for years in an effort to use the compound for its therapeutic purposes.
When concentrations of CBD are added to certain oils, the final product can be used in a variety of ways, including in food/drink, under the tongue, on your skin, etc. Each oil differs in potency and effect according to the concentration of CBD used, and whether it’s CBD-rich or CBD-dominant.
Interesting fact: most of the CBD that’s harvested for medicinal purposes comes from hemp—the least processed form of the cannabis plant. Now, hemp and marijuana come from the same plant, cannabis sativa, but they’re actually quite different. The difference is owed to the deviation in practices between marijuana farmers and hemp farmers. While marijuana farmers focused on cultivating cannabis that was high in THC and other important compounds such as terpenes, hemp farmers kept their plants unmodified, which is where most CBD oil comes from.
People who use CBD typically use it in the form of an oil to treat a number of ailments and conditions, from mood disorders to physically debilitating illness. Preclinical trials performed over the last 40 years indicate that CBD has potential uses as…
Cannabinoids like CBD work by attaching themselves to receptors in the body, which is how they produce their effects. Rather than act on the receptors directly, CBD and other compounds like it encourage the body to use its own store of cannabinoids—endocannabinoids. The two primary receptors that are influenced are the CB1 and CB2 receptors.
CB1 receptors are located throughout our bodies but are primarily found in the brain. The CB1 brain receptors are responsible for movement and coordination, emotions, mood, pain, appetite, memories, and so much more. It’s these receptors that THC attaches itself to. CBD, on the other hand, attaches to a different area of the receptors, allowing it to modify THC’s psychoactive properties.
The other kind of receptor, CB2, is most common in the immune system where they affect pain and inflammation.
It makes sense that THC would attach itself to receptors responsible for mood, thinking, appetite, etc.—they’re all parts of the brain that are affected by the “high” produced by THC. Likewise, CBD seems to focus primarily on encouraging the body to use its own endocannabinoids to affect inflammation and pain in the body, hence its potential medicinal uses.
So, what is CBD oil? It’s an extract from the cannabis plant, most often from hemp. It’s non-psychoactive and because it not only has higher or greater amounts of CBD than THC, it’s able to modify THC’s psychoactive effects, minimizing or eliminating them entirely. CBD oil has given many people a second chance at living pain-free and happy lives, but there are plenty out there who want to restrict public access to CBD products as part of anti-pot propaganda. If you’ve tried a CBD oil product, let us know how it helped you—or if you know someone that uses it, feel free to share their success stories with us. The more conversations we have about CBD oil and use, the easier it will be to educate others on its many potential medicinal benefits.

Santyka was founded by Brian Holtzclaw, a Missouri-based entrepreneur who has seen the benefits of CBD supplements first hand.
“I’ve seen CBD products help people,” says Brian. “I want to do my part to make sure they are available to anyone who wants them.”
Brian has invested a lot of time researching CBD products and understanding the benefits they provide in order to become a resource for customers. One of the hallmarks of Santyka is the personal service customers receive when they call or email.
“Customers don’t get routed to a call center. I answer the phone and help customers personally,” Brian says.
Brian’s entrepreneurial spirit first led him to invest in Bitcoin long before it became a popular currency. Brian also enjoys flying drones in his spare time. He recently got his commercial pilot’s license and plans to produce drone videos for local businesses and real estate firms.
